After a stunning qualifying performance at a rain-soaked Brands Hatch on Saturday, Bobby started race day at the sharp end of the grid in 6th position for the second BTCC race day of the season.
In the first race, he had a solid start and was able to maintain his position throughout most of the race. Although he briefly lost a position to Rory Butcher, he managed to regain his place and finished the race in 6th after a fantastic pass on the penultimate lap at Druids. This result gave him an Independent class win, as he was the highest-placed driver not competing for a manufacturer-backed team.
In the second race, Bobby started from 6th on the grid once again. However, he was shuffled back at the start of the race. He was ultimately unable to make any significant progress due to the car lacking in ultimate straight line performance. He finished the race in 11th position and just inside the reverse grid draw positions.
In the final race of the day, Bobby was drawn onto pole position. Although he dropped back to third at the start of the race, he was able to keep pace with the leaders and ultimately finished in 3rd place on the track. However, a post-race time penalty for first-placed driver Ricky Collard elevated Bobby to 2nd place, his best finish in the BTCC to date. This result also gave him another Independent class win.
Overall, it was a successful day for Bobby, as he not only achieved his best finish in the BTCC to date but also took two Independent class wins, extends his lead in the Independents championship and now sits 6th in the overall drivers championship.
Bobby Commented “Honestly, i’m so happy with this weekend, not only for the results but also to show what the Cupra can do. We have the car in a great window at the moment and we are finally able to show everyone what we have been working on and developing over the past couple of seasons.
“I’m hoping we can keep the car in this form for the rest of the season and consistently compete inside the top ten race after race and pick up some podiums along the way. The team deserve it for all of their hard work and dedication to the operation so far this season, to mix it with the manufacturer teams like we did was a real statement. It was great to do it at Brands Hatch as well as it’s both mine and the team’s home race. We had lots of partners, family and friends with us over the course of the weekend and for all of them to join us in our most competitive weekend to date was amazing.
Thank you to everyone for their support, and long may this form continue.”
